SUKMA 2026: Selangor women’s beach volleyball one step closer to gold

SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The Selangor women’s beach volleyball team moved closer to achieving their goal of winning gold after booking a place in the final of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 today.

The sibling pairing of Rachael Goh Yu Jie and Goh Yu Heng put on a convincing performance to defeat Sarawak A 21-13, 21-14 in the semi-final at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Beach Volleyball Court today.

The victory sees Selangor A face Penang A in the final, scheduled for 4pm.

Yu Jie and Yu Heng controlled the match throughout and are now determined to win gold for the Selangor contingent, as they to make amends for their disappointment at the previous Games.

However, the women’s team’s success was not matched by Selangor B’s men’s team, as the pairing of Jonathan Wong Hong Jie and Tan Yong Jen narrowly lost 17-21, 20-22 to Terengganu A in a closely contested semi-final.

Jonathan and Tan will now turn their attention to the bronze medal playoff against Terengganu B, scheduled for 2.30pm.

Also present to lend his support was Selangor contingent chief Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi, who watched the state team in action and offered words of encouragement to the players before the semi-final.

The two medal matches will be contested at the same venue.
