SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 — The state government has expressed its appreciation to all agencies, departments, and parties that worked together to ensure the successful organisation of the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the commitment shown by all parties throughout the preparation period and the Games reflected the spirit of togetherness embodied by Kita Selangor, which underpins close cooperation between the state government and the community.
“Today is our opportunity to express appreciation to the agencies and departments that have worked tirelessly over the past two years to organise SUKMA, right through to the staging of the Games.
“Alhamdulillah (God be praised), with the spirit of cooperation shown by everyone, we have been able to organise and carry out the event successfully,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the media after attending the 22nd SUKMA and Para SUKMA's appreciation ceremony at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7 last night.
Also present were state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2026 chief executive officer Dato' Mohd Yazid Sairi, and Selangor Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.
He added that the state government is also planning a special event to celebrate approximately 10,000 volunteers and athletes who took part in the Games.
The event will also include incentives for outstanding athletes, with the date still being considered based on scheduling and weather conditions.
“We are looking for a suitable date, taking the weather into account, to celebrate two more groups: the volunteers and the athletes.
“The athletes will also receive incentives. If the weather improves, we may hold the event after the (2027 Selangor) Budget session or on the same day as the Budget, in the afternoon or evening,” Amirudin said.
SUKMA Selangor 2026, held from August 15 to August 24, featured 474 events across 37 sports, with over 13,000 athletes and officials taking part.
Selangor emerged as overall champion with a 50-gold-medal lead over the Federal Territories, securing the title for the 10th time. The state had previously won the championship in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013, and 2016.
