SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — Siblings Rachael Goh Yu Jie and Goh Yu Heng launched Selangor’s gold medal campaign in style, cruising past Johor B 21-7, 21-5 in the women’s beach volleyball event at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026.
The Selangor A pair, who are also national players, produced a dominant display at the MBSA Volleyball Court to make a confident start to their preliminary-round campaign.
However, the duo refused to rest on their opening victory, saying they would remain focused on each match to maintain their momentum.
“I think we need to focus on each match and give our best performance without thinking too much about the tournament as a whole,” Yu Jie, who won silver at SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak, told Media Selangor.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Yu Heng, who is making her SUKMA debut, believes they have a good chance of contributing a gold medal to the Selangor contingent.
“We need to give 100 per cent in every match and hopefully win the gold medal for Selangor.”
Despite their experience competing at national level, the pair are not taking any of their opponents lightly, particularly in the early stages of the tournament.
“We are excited to play together, but we never take it for granted as this is only our first match and we will give our best throughout the tournament,” they said.
The Selangor A pair are scheduled to complete their Group B campaign against Perlis A tomorrow.
A win in the match will confirm their place in the semi-finals, keeping alive their bid for gold.
