‘RM20b target for Selangor creative economy by 2035’

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — Nine Selangor Creative Economy Advancement (SEL-Create) Hubs will be developed under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) to produce intellectual property, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said these hubs would prioritise building creative talent and entrepreneurship and expanding players’ access to markets, exports and investments.

“Creative economy development encompasses talent development, financing, digitalisation, marketing and commercialisation.

“Under the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2025-2035, the creative economy was identified as among the state’s new areas of growth. As a benchmark, the gross domestic product (GDP) value for Selangor’s creative economy in 2022 was estimated at RM8 billion to RM10 billion, with interim targets of RM15 billion to RM16 billion by 2030 and RM20 billion by 2035,” he added.

Najwan was speaking during the wind-up debate on RS-2 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

When tabling RS-2 on August 7, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor would launch SEL-Create Hubs and the Selangor Digital Future Action Plan 2026-2030 to expedite digital and creative economy growth.

He added that both initiatives are aimed at cementing Selangor’s position as a leader in high-impact sectors that can drive economic growth, investments, and job creation.
