SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — The year 2027 will mark a turning point for Selangor in driving growth in the creative economy sector, in line with the 2027 Selangor Budget planning agenda and the state government’s long-term framework.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that in preparation for that year, momentum in developing the creative economy industry needed to be driven through several key strategic measures.
“The creative economy has its place in Selangor, but we do not yet have a ‘plan of action’ to develop it. In fact, I have been talking about the creative economy since 2016.
“We actually have various potentials that can be developed. That is why I asked EXCO Najwan to select one established field for us to develop.
“Look at the entire ecosystem, from marketing and animation production to the expertise required. We do not yet have data on the subsector's potential and strengths, so this must be realised in 2027,” he said.
Amirudin was delivering his speech during the 2027 Selangor Budget engagement session at the Selangor International Trade Centre today.
Earlier, the programme began with a focus group session involving stakeholders, before the findings were presented to him in detail.
Meanwhile, Amirudin wants the state government to prioritise resolving issues affecting paddy cultivation through several strategic approaches and close monitoring by the relevant parties.
The time has come for the state government to help resolve farmers’ problems in a structured and comprehensive manner, rather than merely providing cash incentives to those affected.
“What happened previously was that we dealt with issues piecemeal, and in the end, the problems were not resolved, with everyone receiving what was essentially just painkillers.
“When there was a disease outbreak, we provided cash assistance. Did that solve the problem? Yes, it solved it for only two or three days.
"Once again, 2027 is the year for us to focus, choose one problem and solve it comprehensively,” he said.
Malaysia’s paddy and rice industry was previously reported to face issues involving delays in fertiliser supplies and deduction rates for broken grains, believed to have occurred in the northern region, including areas under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA).
Following this, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission opened an investigation paper into allegations that a fertiliser supplier appointed by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry had failed to supply, deliver, and distribute Fertiliser Three under the Paddy Production Incentive Scheme in MADA areas.
