SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — Employers are urged to foster a culture of kindness and support at workplaces by creating environments where employees feel safe to voice concerns and seek help without fear of judgment or stigma.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said this following the death of a teacher at a school in Hulu Selangor yesterday.
In a statement, he said the tragedy must not be allowed to fade as just another headline, but should instead serve as a wake-up call for everyone to reflect and act.
“While every loss is deeply personal and every circumstance is different, it reminds us that no workplace should ever become a place where anyone feels alone, unheard or without hope.
“Whether in our schools, offices, factories, hospitals or construction sites, every working adult deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect,” he said today.
Papparaidu said the teacher’s death is a painful reminder that behind the smiles people show every day may lie unseen burdens, fears and silent struggles.
“We often ask people how they are, but too rarely do we pause long enough to truly listen. We celebrate achievements, yet we sometimes overlook the emotional weight that so many carry in silence.
“Sometimes, we underestimate the power of the smallest gestures — a sincere ‘How are you?’, a few moments spent listening, a reassuring word, or simply letting someone know they are not alone.
“To the person receiving it, that moment of compassion could mean everything.”
Papparaidu also reminded working adults facing personal struggles that they are not alone, urging them to seek support and speak up when dealing with pain, anxiety, exhaustion or despair.
He also urged society to care more deeply, listen more patiently and support one another more sincerely.
“Because no job is more important than a human life. Every worker deserves respect. Every voice deserves to be heard. Every life matters,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that a female teacher was found dead at a school in the Hulu Selangor district yesterday.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Manimaran Muniandi said police received an emergency call through the 999 line at about 7.15am yesterday regarding the incident.
He said the victim was taken to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Emergency Department.
