SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — There should be more funding under the 2027 Selangor Budget for poverty eradication efforts to expand aid, training and jobs programmes for low-income groups, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.
He said greater allocations would help more people earn higher incomes and rise above the poverty line.
“We hope allocations for poverty eradication can be increased so more needy groups benefit, not just through financial aid, but with opportunities to raise their living standards,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that initiatives that need boosts include the Indian Selangor Empowerment and Entrepreneurs Development (I-SEED), which provides equipment aid, and the Selangor Poverty Eradication Blueprint Assistance Programme.
Papparaidu said he is also looking to expand technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes and JobCare career fairs to improve talent marketability, including in high-skill fields like aerospace.
“Poverty eradication cannot depend on just aid; we need to help people acquire skills, get jobs, and build more consistent streams of income for the long term,” he explained.
Meanwhile, he expressed hope that there could be more RM200 Jom Shopping vouchers for Deepavali next year. This year’s initiative received an allocation of RM5.4 million for 24,000 such vouchers.
“Aid like festival vouchers are quite meaningful in (terms of) easing family spending. We hope this aid can be strengthened according to the state’s financial capabilities so more people may benefit,” Papparaidu said.
