SHAH ALAM, July 28 — The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) and the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) will strengthen the state's artificial intelligence (AI) innovation agenda through talent development and the enhancement of the technology ecosystem.
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation culture Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said Selangor's greatest asset is its people, particularly its young generation, regardless of race or religion, who must be empowered with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to continue innovating.
The state aims to produce more technology creators rather than merely technology users, in line with the need to develop a competitive generation capable of meeting future challenges.
"PPAS is no longer just a library. It has evolved into a knowledge hub that provides spaces for learning, knowledge-sharing, and idea generation to nurture an informed generation from a young age.
"The role of libraries has also expanded to become a platform for building skills and fostering innovation through a learning environment that produces creative and competitive individuals," he said.
Fahmi was speaking at the closing ceremony of the FutureForge 2026 World Robotics League International Coding and Robotics Competition at the Raja Tun Uda Library recently.
In his speech, he said that young people must have the courage to build strong character, think critically, and assess information wisely to navigate the increasingly complex challenges of the digital world.
Technology should be used prudently and responsibly to prevent it from negatively influencing the values of society, particularly among the younger generation.
The councillor noted that the uncontrolled use of social media fosters unhealthy habits and values if it is not accompanied by the ability to evaluate content rationally.
Instead, youths should use reason to think critically, make sound judgements, and manage their emotions before accepting or sharing information, while ensuring that every decision is based on facts.
"Young people must have the courage to ask questions, not be afraid of making mistakes and continue trying, because every success begins with a small idea and a spirit of curiosity that nurtures creativity and self-confidence.
"At the same time, they need to develop a strong sense of identity, remain open-minded, and avoid being influenced by outdated ideas rooted in extreme racial prejudice. Instead, they should evaluate issues rationally," Fahmi said.
He also expressed his appreciation to parents and teachers for their continued guidance and belief in the potential of young people as the future of Selangor.
Fahmi said their ongoing support is essential in nurturing a generation that is creative, competitive, and capable of developing its full potential to contribute to Selangor's development.
Meanwhile, PPAS and SHRDC will launch a Drone Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) Bestari Jaya campus later this month as part of efforts to strengthen the state's technological development.
He said the collaboration between the two institutions will drive Selangor's AI innovation agenda beginning this year while creating more opportunities for technology talent development.
Previously, UNISEL signed a memorandum of understanding with Selangor Aviation and Technology Innovation in November 2021 to establish the CoE, leveraging the university's facilities and strategic environment to support the growth of the drone industry.
Previously, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the state government is prioritising the aerospace and drone industries to increase investment value and drive economic growth.
The organisation of the Selangor Aviation Show since 2021 has also served as a platform to promote the development of the aerospace sector while helping local companies explore opportunities within the industry.
