SHAH ALAM, June 14 — The Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme for school students in Selangor is expected to be expanded next year, with participation targeted at 400 students, up from 200 this year.
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the increase in participant numbers is in line with Selangor's vision to become a leading state in the development and adoption of AI technologies.
The programme, now in its third year, brings together students from various types of schools, including religious, national, and private schools.
He said the initiative is designed to provide early exposure to Generative AI for the younger generation, as the technology continues to advance and gain widespread use across multiple sectors.
“This year, we brought together 200 students from across Selangor to introduce them to the use of Generative AI technology.

“They also took part in a competition held to identify the best participants, and we are planning to increase participation to 400 students next year,” Fahmi said.
He was speaking to the media after officiating the closing ceremony of the Generative AI 2026 programme at the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre yesterday.
Fahmi added that efforts to cultivate AI literacy and usage among the younger generation are important to ensure that Selangor's residents are prepared for increasingly rapid technological changes.
This year’s programme focused on students in Forms Four, Five, and Six, with participants representing diverse ethnic backgrounds and a variety of school types.
“Selangor has a vision of becoming a pioneering AI state, and this technology will not only be used in industry but must also be introduced to students at an early stage,” he said.
