SHAH ALAM, July 28 — The Rapid On-Demand service will officially be included in Selangor's monthly RM30 public transport subsidy scheme in the first week of August, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He expressed confidence that the inclusion would further boost applications for the state initiative, which has already received an encouraging response, The Star reported.
"Once Rapid On-Demand comes on board in the first week of August, I am confident that applications will increase," he said.
Ng added that Rapid KL is awaiting the delivery of additional vans to expand its demand-responsive transit (DRT) capacity.
The public transport subsidy scheme was announced by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari in April as part of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package Phase 1, aimed at mitigating the impact of the geopolitical crisis in West Asia.
Applications must be submitted via the NINE mobile app and are open to the first 50,000 applicants.
Eligible Selangor residents will receive a fare subsidy of RM30 per month for six months until December.
On June 25, subsidy implementer Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB) said the RM30 monthly subsidy would be rolled out in two phases.
The first phase, which includes Rapid On-Demand and Kumpool demand-responsive transit (DRT) services, began on June 15.
The second phase will begin in mid-September and will include additional DRT services, KTM Komuter and bus services.
Ng said further details on the second phase would be announced later but did not specify the number of additional vans expected or when they would be deployed.
He added that the state government had received numerous complaints from DRT users over long waiting times and booking cancellations, and that the issues had been raised with Rapid KL.
