SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — Selangor's RM30 monthly public transport fare subsidy through the NINE app has been expanded to users of the Rapid On-Demand service.
State executive councillor for mobility Ng Sze Han said the expansion provides public transport users with more options, particularly for short-distance journeys.
He said the facility would also benefit commuters travelling to areas not fully served by conventional bus routes or the Kumpool service previously.
"Good news for public transport users! The Selangor government's RM30 monthly public transport subsidy through the NINE app can now also be used for Rapid On-Demand services.
"This means users have more options for getting around, particularly for short-distance journeys or to areas not fully covered by conventional bus routes and Kumpool previously," he said in a statement.
The initiative is being implemented in stages through two phases, with Phase 1 beginning in mid-June and Phase 2 scheduled to begin in mid-September.
The first phase involves Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) services through Kumpool.
The second phase will be expanded to cover DRT, commuter and stage bus services, as well as Rapid On-Demand, which is the latest option available to users.
The programme, under the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package, offers fare subsidies to 50,000 eligible applicants for six months until December 2026.
The assistance is provided for six months to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.
With the expansion to Rapid On-Demand, subsidy recipients have an additional option to use public transport services according to their travel needs.
