PETALING JAYA, July 27 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has invested RM4.43 million to develop the The Pod@PJ D'Cecawi Entrepreneur Development Complex to relocate 57 unlicensed hawkers operating along Jalan Cecawi 6/19A in Kota Damansara.
Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato' Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the 27,284-square-foot complex was built to provide a more organised and comfortable business environment while addressing the issue of roadside hawking.
The new amenity will also help resolve several urban issues, including insufficient parking, illegal dumping, and traffic congestion previously caused by hawking activities in the area.
"The complex comprises 57 stalls, including 32 dine-in units and 25 takeaway units, to accommodate all the affected hawkers," he told the media after officiating the complex earlier today.
Zahri added that the complex is expected to begin operations in September, with cleanliness and food safety given priority to ensure a higher-quality business environment.
"All traders must undergo typhoid vaccinations to ensure food safety standards and safeguard public health among food operators.
"I have also instructed MBPJ's Valuation and Property Management Department to explore ways of enlivening the complex, such as providing a space for live band performances to create a more vibrant business atmosphere," he said.
Zahri noted that the complex is equipped with various facilities, including a recycling centre, toilets and a disability-friendly surau, as well as a children's play area, in line with Petaling Jaya's aspiration to become a Child-Friendly City.
He said that relocating the 57 traders to the complex will not only provide a more organised business location but also enable MBPJ to generate an estimated RM150,000 in annual revenue through business licences, stall rentals, and parking fees.
