PETALING JAYA, July 29 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will conduct engagement sessions with those who submit objections to the proposed data centre development in Damansara after the public objection period concludes, said its Mayor Dato' Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
All objections and suggestions received during the public consultation period will be compiled and considered as part of the approval process of the proposed development.
"The project has not been approved yet. It is still in the process where we notify residents, and they are allowed to submit objections.
"During this period, residents or anyone else may submit objections or proposals, and we will compile all of them as part of the approval process," he told Media Selangor after MBPJ's full board meeting today.
Zahri added that residents should submit their objections directly to the local authority via the proper channels to ensure they are officially recorded and considered.
Earlier this month, a notice board was put up at a site for a proposed data centre development in a residential area in Damansara sparked concern among residents, with many raising issues over its potential impact on the neighbourhood, including safety, environmental, and quality of life considerations.
The proposal has since drawn public objections and calls for greater transparency, prompting MBPJ to open a public consultation period for feedback between July 21 to July 27, before any decision is made.
Meanwhile, he said the next stage after the objection period will be a series of engagement sessions with those who raised concerns.
"Once objections have been received, the next process is engagement with the objectors. Perhaps they are unclear about certain matters, so we will provide further explanations regarding the project," Zahri said.
He noted that there is no minimum number of objections required for MBPJ to take action or initiate engagement with residents.
"The council will consider every objection submitted, regardless of the number received.
"There is no specific number. Even if we receive one or two objections, we will accept them and carry out an engagement with the objectors to explain the project and address any concerns they may have," Zahri said.
