SHAH ALAM, July 17 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) detained 25 individuals during a joint operation against begging activities in the city centre yesterday.
It said that the operation, which began at 8pm, targeted several locations including Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Alor, and Leboh Pudu.
The operation involved personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police, the Immigration Department, the National Registration Department, the Social Welfare Department (JKM), and the National Security Council.
“A total of 25 individuals were taken action against during the operation, comprising 13 Malaysian citizens and 12 non-citizens.
“Of the total, five individuals were handed over to the relevant agencies for further action, involving two individuals referred to the Immigration Department and three to JKM,” it said in a Facebook post today.
DBKL added that it would continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with related enforcement agencies in efforts to eradicate begging activities and ensure the peace, safety and well being of city residents.
