Makeshift structure at Taman OUG illegal parking site demolished

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The demolition of a makeshift structure at an illegal parking site in Taman OUG proceeded smoothly today, with no untoward incidents.

The operation, which began at 10.40am, involved 50 personnel from the Office of the Federal Territories Director of Lands and Mines, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and the Royal Malaysia Police.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who was at the scene to monitor the operation, said the action was taken under Section 426A of the National Land Code.

She had received numerous complaints from residents about individuals illegally collecting parking fees in the area.

“The area will be turned into a free parking area following the demolition of the makeshift structure to address the shortage of parking spaces here.

“The Jalan Hujan area is a focal point for residents here as it has many shops and morning markets,” she told the media during the operation.

Earlier, three men were arrested to assist in investigations into the illegal collection of parking fees, with one of them suspected of punching a woman in the head at a vacant plot next to the OUG Community Hall on August 15.
