SHAH ALAM, July 16 — Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd is awaiting additional vans to boost the Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service as users rise in Selangor, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.

He said the state government has received much feedback from DRT users lately about long waiting times and sudden trip cancellations, with the complaints channelled to Rapid Bus.

“For now, the operator is still waiting for more vans, to be turned into vehicles for the DRT service,” he said when met after the Safer School Streets project community engagement session at SMK Taman Sea in Petaling Jaya yesterday, though he added that there isn’t yet a timeframe for the vehicle acquisition as it is up to Rapid Bus as the DRT operator.

“That one you have to ask Rapid Bus. I don’t have the information, but for now demand (for DRT) is very encouraging,” he said.

Ng also thinks DRT demand would keep rising in the first week of August.

The first stage RM30 public transport fare subsidy under Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) started being disbursed in mid-June for the DRT service managed by Kumpool.

The second stage will start in mid-September and cover DRT, KTM Komuter and stage buses, with the list of eligible services to be announced later.

Under SREP Phase 2, the Selangor government provides a RM30 public transport fare subsidy to 50,000 Selangoreans for six months, aimed at easing the people’s burdens amid rising living cost pressures.
