KLANG, July 15 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj yesterday urged the state government to take a leaf out of Singapore’s flood mitigation book.
According to a Selangor Royal Office statement on Facebook, the Ruler said the approach could help the state manage floods more effectively.
“I want the Selangor government to learn from and adapt development models and technology used by Singapore to overcome flooding in Selangor,” read His Royal Highness’ statement.
Yesterday, the Sultan received an audience from Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Istana Alam Shah here.
Also present was Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
In the nearly hour-long audience, both leaders discussed Selangor and Singapore’s economic and development issues.
Sultan Sharafuddin expressed interest in Singapore’s flood mitigation technology, river-cleaning methods, and sustainable environmental development.
Tharman is in Malaysia for a three-day state visit.
