SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, has called on Muslims to free themselves from greed, treachery, and betrayal of trust to attain the true meaning of independence.
True independence begins with the ability to control oneself from things that can harm one’s life, while ensuring that power and entrusted responsibilities are not abused for personal gain.
“I am concerned that while the people struggle with hardship, certain parties are enjoying wealth derived from betrayed trust and manipulated justice.
“This is the injustice that emerges when power is no longer guided by trustworthiness, but instead is driven by the greed of desire,” said His Royal Highness in a Facebook post by the Selangor Royal Office today.
The Ruler also warned of increasingly apparent signs of eroding trust when responsibilities are entrusted to the unqualified and then betrayed for personal gain.
“Whether we realise it or not, the signs of the end times are becoming increasingly apparent. It is an era in which trust is entrusted to those who are not qualified; an era in which trust is betrayed for personal gain,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
In this regard, His Royal Highness urged Muslims to avoid breaching trust, as such actions can undermine confidence and remove blessings from community life.
Every trust must be fulfilled with complete honesty, however small, as this forms the foundation of wellbeing and true independence.
“Every individual entrusted with managing the wealth and interests of the Muslim community, or those entrusted with the authority to manage public funds, is in reality carrying a tremendous responsibility before Allah SWT.
“Indeed, managing public funds with integrity is a sign of our love for the community and the country. Do not allow wealth that should benefit the community to be misappropriated for personal gain,” said the Sultan.
Sultan Sharafuddin also noted that those who commit offences must be punished, while those who act with integrity should be supported and good systems continuously improved from time to time.
“Those who are guilty must be punished, those who are trustworthy must be supported, and good systems must continue to be improved from time to time. May Allah SWT place the treasury of Malaysia’s Muslim community in the hands of His pious and trustworthy servants,” said His Royal Highness.
At the same time, the Ruler reminded those who commit acts of injustice not to assume that they would escape Allah SWT’s judgement.
“In reality, Allah SWT deliberately delays the punishment of those who commit injustice so that they may experience how terrible and fearful the wrath of Allah SWT is,” said Sultan Sharafuddin.
Earlier today, His Royal Highness attended the Surah Yassin recitation, tahlil and doa selamat session held in conjunction with the state-level 69th National Day celebrations at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
Accompanied by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Sultan Sharafuddin was received by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
His Royal Highness also listened to a Friday sermon entitled 'Free from the Shackles of Greed'.
