SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today rode the entire LRT3 line from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia to survey the new public transport service launched on June 29.
His Royal Highness, as well as Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, were welcomed by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd management at the Bandar Utama station before their journey began at 10.40am.
The Sultan, who rode at the front of the coach, surveyed the journey along the 37.8km line, which has 20 stops and a 2.5km underground passage.
The delegation for the journey, which took about an hour, included Prasarana chief executive officer Amir Hamdan, Prasarana group chief operations officer (strategy and development) Prodyut Dutt, and MRCB group managing director Dato’ Imran Salim.
Earlier this month, the Ruler expressed hope that the LRT3 may reduce traffic congestion and provide a quicker, safer and more comfortable commute for Klang and Shah Alam residents working in Kuala Lumpur.
Sultan Sharafuddin also called on Prasarana to keep up with maintenance along the LRT3 route for smooth operation.
His Royal Highness also hoped the line catalyses economic development, improves the people’s quality of life, and strengthens the Kuala Lumpur-Petaling Jaya-Shah Alam-Klang interconnection as Malaysia’s main growth hub.
The Shah Alam LRT3 project involved an investment of RM16.63 billion to boost the nation’s public transport infrastructure.
Prasarana previously said the LRT3 service is supplemented by 40 feeder buses that serve 323 stops and 13 special routes, with a flat RM1 fare between 6am and 11.30pm.
