SHAH ALAM, July 11 — The Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) is ready to explore potential collaborations in developing high-impact wakaf projects with Oman-based bank Sohar Islamic.
In a Facebook post, the agency said the initiative followed a working visit and engagement session on wakaf project development by an Omani delegation last Thursday.
It added that the delegation was taken to visit several potential wakaf projects, including Saudagar Nanas Agrofarm and the Sungai Merab Wakaf Petrol Station, which serve as examples of productive and sustainable wakaf asset implementation.
“The programme aimed to strengthen strategic relations and explore potential collaborations in developing high-impact wakaf projects that can provide continuous benefits to the ummah through the sharing of expertise, experience and best practices at the international level,” it said.
The Omani delegation was accompanied by Malaysia Wakaf Foundation chief executive officer Ridzwan Bakar, while the PWS delegation was led by Wakaf Selangor Energy (WSE) chairman Datuk Misri Idris and PWS deputy chief executive officer Mohd Huzairi Hamdan.
PWS said the visit paved the way for strategic discussions on commercial wakaf development models, sustainable wakaf asset management and Islamic social investment opportunities.
“PWS is committed to continuously expanding its network of collaborations with various institutions locally and internationally to strengthen the wakaf ecosystem as a progressive, sustainable and competitive Islamic economic development instrument.”
PWS was officially established on Jan 11, 2011, following the decree of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, to strengthen the management of wakaf assets in line with the practices of zakat management systems.
