SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — Selangor continues to strengthen its position as one of the states with the most active management of wakaf properties.
Since 2011, 1,839 wakaf properties have been successfully registered in the state, involving a combined area of 1,931.37 acres.
The estimated total value of these wakaf properties has reached RM1.584 billion, reflecting the state government’s strong commitment to preserving and effectively managing wakaf assets.
The Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) said that, in 2025 alone, wakaf land registrations covered 88.37 acres.
These lands are concentrated in several key districts: Sabak Bernam (42.18 acres), Kuala Langat (18.80 acres), and Kuala Selangor (15.63 acres).
Similarly, Klang recorded 3.78 acres, Hulu Selangor 5.24 acres, and Gombak 2.21 acres, while Petaling recorded 0.45 acres and Hulu Langat 0.08 acres.
The performance of wakaf property registrations over the past three years shows a consistent trend, with 102 registrations involving 72.24 acres valued at RM36.225 million in 2023.
In 2024, the number of registrations increased to 133, covering 86.98 acres and valued at RM27.501 million. Meanwhile, last year saw 110 registrations recorded, involving 88.37 acres valued at RM20.230 million.
Among examples of wakaf land projects utilised is the development of the Petron Sungai Merab wakaf petrol station in Sepang, which began full operations on December 29, 2025.
In addition, wakaf properties are leased for ongoing benefits, such as mosques, religious schools, maahad tahfiz, and agricultural activities.
Other projects include education and welfare development initiatives, including plans for the Selangor Integrated Tahfiz Science Maahad and an elderly care centre.
Earlier, PWS Chairman Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir tabled the session in conjunction with the 'Chairman’s Dialogue: Sinergi Wakaf Selangor Bersama GLC & Korporat' programme at the Mardhiyyah Hotel and Suites in Shah Alam on Tuesday (February 3).
PWS said the programme served as a strategic platform to strengthen understanding, trust, and development synergy for wakaf at the state level.
“The dialogue emphasised the role of wakaf as a relevant and sustainable socio-economic instrument that can be strategically mobilised together with today’s corporate ecosystem.
“This approach is in line with PWS’s aspiration to mainstream wakaf within Selangor’s economic and social development landscape in an inclusive and resilient manner,” it said.
