KAJANG, Jan 12 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has immediately channelled RM50,000 to SRAI Bandar Baru Bangi to assist with repair works on the canteen, which was damaged by a fire.
The foundation's chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the contribution is intended to ease the school’s burden while the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) continues its investigations into the fire's causes.
“This assistance is provided as soon as possible to help the school rebuild the affected canteen while awaiting the full report of the Fire Department’s forensic investigation into the cause of the fire and the actual amount of losses,” he told the media at the school today.

Azri added that five temporary tents have been provided by Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan and the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), while the school is arranging alternative locations.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) has also channelled RM50,000 to assist in redeveloping the school’s canteen, which serves over 1,000 pupils.
Its chief executive officer Anuar Hamzah Tohar said the funds are an initial measure, with priority given to the safety of students and school staff while awaiting the completion of investigations and subsequent development planning.
“Follow-up assistance for development works will also be considered by PWS after the fire investigation is fully completed. For now, the affected area has been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of students and school staff at all times,” he said.

The canteen at SRAI Bandar Baru Bangi, along Persiaran Kemajuan in Section 16, was gutted in a fire on Saturday (January 10).
According to JBPM Operations Commander PBK I Shaiful Bahrin Samad, 80 per cent of the Class A structure housing the school canteen was destroyed, with no casualties reported.
