SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) recorded approximately RM80.041 million in total collections last year.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said this was revealed by its newly appointed chairman Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir during his courtesy visit today.

Of the total collections, cash wakaf contributed RM13.437 million, with the highest amount generated through salary deduction schemes, along with public donations and land endowments.

The meeting also discussed the progress of several ongoing wakaf projects, including the development of petrol stations to generate sustainable, long-term benefits for the community.

“We also reviewed the progress of several wakaf projects currently being implemented, including the development of petrol stations as an initiative to generate continuous benefits for society,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin also stressed the importance of strengthening public understanding of the differences between wakaf and zakat.

He proposed implementing community-based wakaf initiatives, such as constructing dialysis centres, to ensure the benefits are enjoyed more widely.

“May all these efforts continue to have a positive impact on the well-being of the people,” Amirudin said.

Syed Zainal, who previously served as Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd executive director and as Proton Holdings Bhd group holdings manager, was appointed PWS' chairman with effect on Thursday (January 1), succeeding Datuk Ibrahim Md Yusoff.
