SHAH ALAM, July 7 — The disbursement of the Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa (BRAIS) assistance is expected to begin in stages from the middle of August, benefiting 1,800 disabled persons across the state.
State executive councillor for women's empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said that 1,800 applicants have been identified as eligible to receive the assistance from a total of 4,096 applications submitted.
“The screening and assessment process by Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor is currently being carried out intensively to ensure that every application is assessed transparently and meets the prescribed criteria and eligibility requirements,” she told Media Selangor.
Anfaal added that Category A, which covers assistance for therapy centre fees, recorded the highest number of applications at 2,691, reflecting the strong demand for intervention and developmental services for disabled persons in Selangor.
The encouraging response to BRAIS also demonstrates that demand for welfare assistance within the disabled community remains high.
“If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the initial target, the state government will review the programme's financial position before considering appropriate measures to ensure the assistance can be provided as effectively as possible,” she said.
The state government has allocated RM800,000 to implement BRAIS, which replaces the Selangor Special Child Assistance programme with a broader scope of assistance to cater to the needs of a wider range of beneficiaries.
The programme was introduced to support the development and education of disabled persons, with the aim of benefiting 1,800 recipients throughout Selangor.
