Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa receives over 2,300 applications

SHAH ALAM, June 14 — More than 2,000 applications for the Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa (BRAIS) assistance scheme have been received since applications opened on June 1, aimed at supporting disabled persons in Selangor.

Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor's (YANIS) chief executive officer Kamarul Hisham Yeop Hashim said that 2,381 applications had been received to date, surpassing the initial target set.

The number of applications is expected to continue increasing until the closing date next Monday (June 22).

“As of today, we have received 2,381 applications, which is higher than the initial expectation mentioned by YB, which was originally 1,800 applicants.

“So we expect that by the time applications close on June 22, the total could rise to between 2,500 and 3,000. So far, the highest number of applications is for therapy fees, with 1,480 applications,” he said.

Kamarul was speaking to Media Selangor during the state-level Advocacy Programme on Care for Disabled Persons (Autism) yesterday.

He added that the screening and assessment process for applications will be carried out immediately after the application period closes.

“We expect the process to take about two weeks, after which we can manage and distribute the assistance,” Kamarul said.

BRAIS is a rebranding of the Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor programme, intended to strengthen the delivery of assistance to persons with special needs through a more structured and inclusive approach.

The initiative, under YANIS, offers five categories of assistance to help ease the financial burden on recipients and their families.

It includes therapy centre fees, medication and special needs assistance, each worth RM1,200, as well as special equipment assistance of up to RM3,000.

Also available are special education school fee assistance amounting to RM120 and assistance for the construction or upgrading of disability-friendly toilets of up to RM1,500.

Applications are open to Malaysian citizens who are registered voters in Selangor. Beneficiaries must be aged 60 or below and hold an OKU card registered with the Social Welfare Department.

Applicants are also required to submit supporting documents for the category of assistance they are applying for before submitting their applications online through the official YANIS website.
