SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will continue working closely with developers to expedite projects for walkways and other public infrastructure around LRT3 stations following concerns over incomplete access for commuters.
Its Mayor Dato’ Zabidah Safar said the project areas form part of a transit-oriented development requirement, under which developers are responsible for building the mandatory public infrastructure as part of their development approvals.
“All the required public facilities, including walkways and pedestrian paths, were already stipulated as part of the planning conditions approved by MBSA. We will continue to monitor the progress and work closely with the developers.
“If there is a need to expedite the construction, we will provide the necessary assistance,” she said during a media conference at the Stadium Shah Alam station today, with state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim and Kota Anggerik state assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi in attendance.
The checks by the state representatives were conducted following a viral video that showed incomplete pedestrian walkways, which could pose a hazard to commuters, especially university students who rely on public transportation.
Zabidah added that MBSA’s role is to ensure developers fulfil the conditions imposed during the planning approval process.
The developments in the area involve developers such as Mori Park and the Selangor State Development Corporation.
She noted that the completion time would ultimately depend on the progress of the respective developments.
