SHAH ALAM, May 6 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is formulating a comprehensive tourism roadmap under its Shah Alam Tourism Action Plan 2026-2030, aimed at encouraging visitors to extend their stay and boost local economic activity, reported The Star.

Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Zabidah Safar said that while formulating the five-year plan, one of the main gaps identified was the absence of structured visitor packages despite the city’s wide range of attractions.

“We do not have specific tourism packages. Sometimes, visitors stay in Shah Alam but go to Kuala Lumpur or Subang to spend,” she said.

Zabidah said the city council aims to encourage visitors to remain in Shah Alam for at least one or two nights to support local businesses.

“This will allow the economic cycle to take place within the MBSA area and benefit local businesses.”

To this end, she said, MBSA will collaborate with agencies such as Tourism Selangor and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), as well as operators of key attractions including the National Botanic Gardens, i-City, and recreational providers around the Shah Alam Lake Garden.

She added that coordination would be led by MBSA’s Community Development Department, with a focus on improving tourism offerings and packaging existing products more effectively.

Meanwhile, she also highlighted a tourism portal that shows trending destinations and popular eateries in the city.

“We have a tourism portal where visitors can see trendy places in Shah Alam.”

Zabidah said the platform is a one-stop information hub and may be expanded into a mobile app in the future.
