SERDANG, June 26 — All Selangor local councils have been ordered to build safe, comfortable pedestrian links to public transport stations, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He added that the directive applies to local councils statewide, not just those with LRT3 stations in their administrative areas, to overcome linkage gaps in the public transport system.
“This involves all local councils, where they need to ensure missing links to the existing transport stations are completed.
“The focus for local councils for this year and the coming years is to build safer and more comfortable pedestrian facilities for commuters,” he said when met at the Selangor Aerospace Forum at MAEPS here today.
He also said the state government has continuously engaged with transport operators to address first- and last-mile connectivity with regard to the LRT3.
“Engagements with Prasarana were held several times for the Rapid On-Demand service. It has a plan that I think is quite comprehensive for coverage in most areas along the line.
“After the launch (of LRT3), I think we can discuss it again to ensure where the actual needs are and what modifications can be made.
“Engagements will always be held with operators so we can provide the best service to LRT3 commuters,” he said.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke previously said the LRT3, which connects Klang to Petaling Jaya, will start operating on June 29.
Loke said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will launch the new line on Sunday.
Earlier, social media users raised concerns over access to LRT3 stations, alleging that pedestrian paths in nearby areas, including an education institution, are unsafe and require users to walk through bushes.
