KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) is almost ready for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026, with preparation progress at 95 per cent, as it gears up to host five events.
Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the council is confident it can deliver on duties it has been entrusted with by the state and federal governments, thanks to MBPJ staff’s commitment and cooperation.
“Among the main venues would be the Petaling Jaya Hockey Stadium, which is now grade A and fulfils championship standards, including in terms of facilities, safety, and athlete and spectator comfort throughout the Games.
“To ensure the venues are truly ready, MBPJ will hold the Mayor’s Hockey Cup Championship this week as a test event before SUKMA,” he added when met at the MBPJ Media Awards here last night.
Zahri also said MBPJ has been entrusted to make SUKMA merrier with various initiatives to draw supporters to competition venues.
Buses and vans are provided to ferry spectators to events, and MBPJ’s partnership with the Selangor State Education Department and higher learning institutions will encourage students to attend events and support athletes, he explained.
Besides the Petaling Jaya Hockey Stadium, the other venues are the MBPJ Astaka Sports Complex, Kelana Jaya Sports Complex, PKNS Sports Complex, and MBPJ Stadium.
SUKMA Selangor will be held from August 15 to 24 with 474 events across 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14 with 338 events across 10 sports.
