SHAH ALAM, June 26 — Immediate repairs have been ordered on the Sungai Langat bund to avoid worsening floods in the nearby Kampung Rancangan Tanah Belia (RTB) Bukit Changgang, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.
He added that an Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) inspection yesterday revealed a 50m breach along the bund, which is currently being reinforced.
“I have instructed that the breached section be closed first using soil and rocks, before adding sheet piles to the front to protect it from the river current.
“We will then install SPS panels that arrived today before carrying out backfilling works,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
On Tuesday, Kampung RTB Bukit Changgang was flooded when the Sungai Langat bund burst, forcing hundreds to evacuate to temporary relief centres.
Izham said the bund reinforcement project remains a key priority for the state government, given its importance in lowering flood risks, and is scheduled for completion in January at a cost of RM4 million.
It is part of a RM7.7 million allocation approved by the state government for flood mitigation works in the area.
