SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) will review the construction plan for the shop-house lots at the Kapar Industrial Park if the project continues to cause flooding at homes in Taman Seri Kerayong.
Its Engineering Department director Mohd Zaidi Zainal said the local authority is currently monitoring the developer’s actions, including the construction of a temporary retention pond and work to repair and upgrade the existing drainage system.
“To ensure this does not happen, MBDK will monitor the developer to ensure that the work is carried out according to the plans designed and approved by the council based on the studies conducted and feedback from the relevant agencies.
“If flooding continues to occur, we can review the approved plans because the design prepared should be able to overcome the flooding problem.
“This is because the studies conducted by the consultant cover the hydrological and hydraulic aspects of the area and must comply with engineering procedures,” he told Media Selangor.
Zaidi added that the developer and project consultant had agreed to take measures to address flooding in Taman Seri Kerayong, including constructing a temporary retention pond and upgrading and repairing the existing drainage system.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), within one and a half months, the developer will carry out upgrading works on Jalan Kerayong 6, which will indirectly improve the drainage system in the area, and we hope this will resolve the flooding problem.
“The developer will also carry out internal drain construction works in the developed area, which is expected to help address flooding in the surrounding areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sementa state assemblyman Noor Najhan Mohamad Salleh said the developer will reopen the existing covered drains to ensure rainwater can be channelled into the drains instead of entering the residential area.
“The bunds will also be raised and reinforced so that water currents during heavy rain do not breach the existing bunds, while the exit slip road will be temporarily closed to allow construction work to be carried out.
“Regarding compensation, residents have suffered significant losses and damage. Therefore, the developer has agreed to provide compensation and will conduct a survey to determine the amount of compensation,” he said.
