SHAH ALAM, June 25 — Thirty-two homes in Taman Langat Utama 2 in Banting were flooded following a bund collapse this morning, said Sepang MP Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
She said Sepang MP Service Centre and emergency personnel immediately rushed to the Bukit Changgang neighbourhood to coordinate aid, adding that the bund broke around 800m from the area, triggering the flood.
“Around 32 homes were affected with floodwater depth estimated to be between one and three feet (0.3m to 0.9m),” she said in a Facebook statement.
Aiman Athirah said the priority is to ensure each family’s safety and evacuate victims if need be.
“We will also identify the cause of the incident and take follow-up action with concerned agencies for immediate and long-term solutions,” she added.
Aiman Athirah urged victims to follow authorities’ directions and get help if they need it.
“Thank you to the District Disaster Management Committee, technical agencies, and Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) team, especially the Banting Fire and Rescue Station that took quick action early this morning.
“We will keep monitoring this situation until it is back under control,” she said.
Meanwhile, Selangor JBPM assistant director (operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the incident occurred at 11pm with most residents having left the area, but his office received an emergency call at 4.12am about the flooding.
He added that six personnel from the Banting BBP arrived on site at 4.35am to monitor the situation and assist residents.
“So far, 32 homes were affected by floods in the area. (JBPM) personnel have advised residents in the area to evacuate to safer locations as a preventive measure,” Ashrul Riezal said.
