SHAH ALAM, June 27 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, has channelled RM30,000 worth of essential goods for flood victims at the SK RTB Bukit Changgang temporary relief centre (PPS) in Banting.

“I was made to understand that there are more than 500 victims placed here.

“We, Yayasan MBI, have brought essential goods like pillows, blankets, quilts, electric kettles, snacks, and drinks to supplement goods provided by the Social Welfare Department,” Yayasan MBI head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said when met after delivering aid at the PPS yesterday.

Azri said the foundation is looking into cash aid for some recipients, pending data from the District Office including police reports and other documents to ensure distribution goes smoothly.

“I encourage all flood victims to register at the PPS because there are various forms of aid from Yayasan MBI, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), and the Selangor Disaster Management Unit (UPBN).

“By registering, victims won’t be left out of receiving aid that could alleviate their burdens,” he added.

Azri also said the foundation is in contact with UPBN to coordinate house-cleaning works as soon as victims are allowed to go home.

“(Cleanup efforts will involve) several volunteers including Selangor Volunteer (SERVE), Selangor Youth Community (SAY), and tertiary student volunteers.

“These volunteer teams will also be mobilised to clean up this school that served as a PPS to ensure school sessions can continue as usual,” he added.

On Thursday morning, a burst bund in Sungai Langat released a flood into nearby neighbourhoods.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said 546 victims from 250 households were housed at the PPS yesterday afternoon, compared with only 30 evacuees Thursday morning.
