SHAH ALAM, June 22 — The state government had resolved a land ownership issue in December, for the third Port Klang terminal on Pulau Carey, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said this involves a 1,011ha land plot and 688ha of seabed.
However, he added, Selangor is awaiting the federal government’s say-so on the development and ownership of the port.
“Views from legal advisers and the attorney-general are that no private port can be approved (as belonging to) a state government, company, or individual, because ports rightfully belong to the federal government.
“We are waiting for the federal government’s decision on this matter, because we have resolved the land (issue),” he told a press conference at the State Secretariat Building lobby here today.
Amirudin expressed confidence that the third Port Klang terminal can be launched in September as planned, adding that the state government, through the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), is ready to start the project as soon as approval is granted.
“Now (the government) has to approve a tax refund to the federal government, or if the federal government wants to bear the cost. Because the cost is an estimated RM100 million for the land ownership,” he said.
Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Selangor is settling land issues for the initial phase of the third Port Klang terminal on Pulau Carey.
He reportedly said the process is being coordinated by the Transport Ministry and state government with private parties involving concession models.
The third Port Klang terminal on Pulau Carey is a strategic project to boost the country’s economic capabilities and position in the port and logistics sector.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordered that all agencies expedite processes to realise the third Port Klang terminal on Pulau Carey.
