Smart Sewa moratorium, public facility upgrades to benefit community

SHAH ALAM, June 20 — A moratorium on the Smart Sewa Scheme and for Selangor civil servants, as well as the Selangor Penyayang Project (PSP), could improve community well-being amid global economic uncertainties, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

He said the initiative under Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) will help ease the people’s burdens.

“Although a ceasefire deal has been signed between Iran and the United States, global economic conditions and markets are expected to take three to six months to stabilise.

“In this time, the people would still face various economic challenges, so the moratorium offered to Smart Sewa Scheme renters and Selangor civil servants can bring them some relief and help reduce their financial stress,” he added when met after the tabling of SREP Phase 2 at a special Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.

Borhan also said the RM14 million allocation for PSP would benefit residents of high-rise buildings, especially structures more than 15 years old that need maintenance and upgrades.

He explained that the project would be done with the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) under the CERIA Scheme based on applications from residents.

“This effort is not only to beautify residential surroundings, but bring comfort and relief to residents of high-rise buildings that need maintenance and upgrades.

“Priority will be given to areas that haven’t received PSP or CERIA Scheme benefits, whether urban or rural, including Ampang, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya,” he said.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a Smart Sewa Scheme moratorium from October to December, involving 1,012 renters paying between RM450 and RM1,300 monthly.

He also introduced a moratorium for the same period on state government housing loans with a RM2.54 million allocation, which will benefit 2,333 Selangor civil servants.

The Selangor government allocated RM14 million for PSP, which covers upgrades to public park facilities and the repainting of apartments over 15 years old to improve residents’ comfort and quality of their surroundings.
