SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The state government has provided 2,451 residential units under Smart Sewa to date, helping residents build their financial capacity before purchasing their own homes.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the scheme is one of the state government's initiatives to enable tenants to transition towards home ownership.

"The Smart Sewa Scheme offers a refund of 30 per cent of the total net rent paid, which can be used as savings or as a deposit towards purchasing a home.

"This approach provides an opportunity for residents to move from being tenants to homeowners in a more sustainable manner," he told Media Selangor.

Borhan was responding to claims by Selangor PAS Youth vice-chief Muhammad Faizzuddin Mohd Zai that the state government had failed to address housing issues.

Meanwhile, he said the state government remains committed to strengthening its public housing agenda through inclusive, sustainable policies focused on people's actual needs.

"The focus of the state administration is not merely to build more houses, but to ensure that more Selangor residents have the opportunity to own comfortable, quality, and affordable homes, in line with the aspiration of 'One Family, One Comfortable Home'," Borhan said.

Smart Sewa is one of the state government's strategic initiatives to strengthen the affordable housing agenda for the people of Selangor.

Under the scheme, tenants are required to rent for a minimum period of two years, after which they are entitled to a refund of 30 per cent of the total net rent paid upon completing the tenancy. The maximum tenancy period is five years.
