SHAH ALAM, June 17 — The list of athletes representing Selangor at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 will be finalised on July 3, said Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.
He added that athletes are doing their best to secure a spot in the state squad for the August tournament.
He also said MSNS will shortlist candidates before selection.
“They are in their final sprint and must make the most of this opportunity. In the remaining one or two weeks, we will shortlist athletes and choose the best ones who fulfil our criteria,” he told Media Selangor.
Nizam said no changes are allowed once the lineup is decided on July 3, unless an athlete needs to be replaced.
Selected athletes will undergo special training to help them visualise real tournament conditions and strengthen mental readiness.
Nizam added that even experienced athletes must consider sports science elements that emphasise physical fitness and balanced diets.
“In the lead-up to SUKMA, every team is encouraged to undergo group training and up the intensity of their training to polish up competition tactics and strategies.
“Teams could also hold training camps up to championship day if athletes receive leave in that time. MSN(S) will draft a leave application letter so these final preparations go smoothly,” Nizam explained.
The 22nd SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24, involving 469 events in 37 sports, across 52 venues in Selangor’s nine districts. Only track cycling will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14, involving 369 events in 10 sports including swimming, athletics, badminton, ping pong, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia, and powerlifting.
