SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — Contingents dissatisfied with competition decisions during the upcoming 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) can lodge formal protests in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the competition rules for each sport.
Selangor Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the protest procedures have been clearly set out to ensure every objection can be assessed through the proper channels.
Dissatisfied contingents could submit an official letter to the competition manager or technical committee within the stipulated timeframe.
"(The protest procedure) is included in the competition rules for every event. The procedures for lodging protests are all set out in the competition rules.
"So, if they are dissatisfied, they can submit an official letter to the competition manager," he told Media Selangor.
Nizam added that the protests will then be assessed, including an examination of the merits of each case, before a decision is made.
"There is already a committee established to assess any protests from each sport. If they are still dissatisfied, an appeal can be made to the appeals jury.
"The appeals jury can make a decision. For example, if it finds that the matter being protested is completely irrelevant, it can simply reject the appeal," he said.
Protests must be lodged immediately after the competition ends and, normally, within one hour of the event.
"It has to be done immediately, usually once the competition has ended. Normally, it is within one hour after the competition. If SUKMA has already ended and you only want to lodge a protest then, there is no point," Nizam said.
Each protest carries a fee of RM500, which is non-refundable regardless of whether the protest is successful.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 24, while PARA SUKMA 2026 will be held from September 5 to September 14.
The Games will feature 469 events across 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will comprise 316 events across 10 sports.
