KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the spirit of hijrah must be translated through consensus and unity to drive reforms that uphold justice, truth, prosperity and security.
In a Facebook post in conjunction with Maal Hijrah 1448H today, he said Prophet Muhammad’s hijrah to Madinah shows that great success is not achieved individually, but rather through teamwork based on unity of faith.
Anwar said the history of hijrah also shows the important role played by youth like Saidina Ali Abi Talib, contributions from women like Asma Abu Bakar, and companions who organised and took part in the historic event.
“Embodying the spirit of hijrah in the current reality is not easy. It requires consensus and cooperation across a diverse community network.
“Success will not come merely through rhetoric, slogans and individual effort, but must be achieved together with patience towards victory,” he said.
The prime minister added that the willingness to carry out reforms based on the essence of hijrah must be a collective effort and not by any single party.
“Let us immerse ourselves in the spirit of hijrah and all the noble lessons. However, in achieving the goals of change and reform, cooperation and unity are highly valuable in attaining success,” he said.
Anwar also shared the meaning of verse 100 of Surah An-Nisa regarding the reward for those who migrate in the path of Allah.
“Hijrah is sacrifice, hijrah is struggle, hijrah is brotherhood, hijrah builds unity. Happy Maal Hijrah 1448H,” he said.
Earlier, Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee reportedly said “Madani Embraced, Ummah Blessed” is the theme of Malaysia’s Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration.
