SHAH ALAM, June 17 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj last night celebrated Maal Hijrah 1448H with congregants at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah here.
The Ruler, who arrived at 7pm, was welcomed by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.
Also present was state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.

The Sultan joined an end-of-year prayer led by the mosque’s first imam Abu Dzar Adanan, as well as a new-year prayer led by grand imam Dato’ Muhammad Farhan Wijaya.
His Royal Highness then performed congregational Maghrib and Isyak prayers and listened to a special Maal Hijrah sermon by Assoc Prof Mohd Hapiz Mahaiyadin, head of the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Contemporary Islamic Studies Academy’s Postgraduate Learning Centre.

Sultan Sharafuddin then attended a banquet after presenting the Maal Hijrah Icon award to Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, former Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman.
Aziz has also held important roles, including as chairman of the Election Commission and Selangor state secretary.
This year’s Maal Hijrah celebration is themed “Madani Embraced, Ummah Blessed”, which emphasises Muslims’ commitment to embodying the spirit of hijrah by practising integrity and responsibility in governance and their lives, centred on Islamic values.
