SHAH ALAM, June 23 — The spread of deviant religious teachings in the state remains under control and is not considered alarming due to continuous monitoring by the authorities, including the Selangor Islamic Religious Council and the police.
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said approximately 10 teachings that have been declared deviant through religious edicts (fatwas) are currently under observation to ensure they are not revived by any parties.
Most of the groups involved do not have large followings comparable to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), but instead operate within small circles.
“These teachings do not have a large following like GISBH, all of them are small groups. For example, the Qadiani teaching, with one attempt to revive it from a shop lot.
“However, we took enforcement action, seized the premises, and issued a warning. It has since disappeared.
"At present, deviant teachings are not a cause for concern because we have a strong legal foundation. Once a fatwa has been issued, legal action can be taken,” he said during a media conference.
Last month, Selangor Mufti Department Fatwa Division chief Mohamad Shukry Sulaiman said that seven teachings were officially gazetted as deviant between 2021 and 2026 following research, interviews and investigations conducted jointly with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department.
Research papers were prepared only after investigators were fully satisfied that they understood the groups’ beliefs and teachings, which were then compared against the principles of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah.
The teachings declared deviant during the period were:
Asmaul Husna Teachings (2022).
Ibu Yati Teachings (2022).
Makrifat Teachings (2024).
GISBH (2024).
Si Hulk Teachings (2025).
Risalah Bab Kesucian (2025).
Kumpulan Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir (2026).
