SINGAPORE, June 11 — Selangor recorded the highest value of approved investments in Malaysia during the first quarter of this year, amounting to RM33.5 billion.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the impressive achievement represented almost 40 per cent of the total RM83 billion in investments recorded throughout the whole of last year.
“In the first quarter of this year alone, we achieved more than RM33 billion. However, investment value cannot be measured in isolation.
"There are processes involved, including various approvals that must be obtained. I hope this momentum can be maintained, and we must continue monitoring developments to ensure Selangor remains the best destination for investment while also creating abundant employment opportunities
“As was the case last year, although we were behind Johor in terms of investment value, we recorded the highest number of job opportunities, with 63,000 jobs created in 2025," he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the media after participating in the 'Investment Roundtable: Gateway City — Unlocking Strategic Opportunities in Selangor' session, jointly organised by Invest Selangor and OCBC Singapore on Tuesday (June 9).
Selangor recorded the highest approved investment value, followed by Johor (RM16.9 billion), the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory (RM16.9 billion), Penang (RM6.2 billion), and Sarawak (RM4.0 billion).
Based on the Malaysian Investment Development Authority's data on Monday (June 8), the achievement was driven by the integration of mature infrastructure in the Cyberjaya area.
Amirudin is similarly confident that Selangor will achieve its RM60 billion investment target, given its current economic performance, despite the global challenges faced during the first six months of the year.
“The investment figures are very encouraging and demonstrate the consistency of ongoing efforts by the Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry, as well as the state administration’s success in attracting investors,” he said.
The Malaysian Statistics Department has reported that Selangor maintained its position as the nation's leading economic state in 2024, recording the highest gross domestic product (GDP) at RM432.1 billion.
This achievement accounted for 26.2 per cent of Malaysia's total GDP, further strengthening Selangor’s role as a major hub for the industrial and services sectors. The state also recorded economic growth of 6.3 per cent, surpassing the national average.
