SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — Alternative energy and integrated circuit (IC) design were among topics of discussion covered during a courtesy visit paid by German Ambassador to Malaysia Silke Riecken-Daerr on Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari today.

He said Riecken-Daerr’s visit to his office here was aimed at strengthening cooperation between Selangor and Germany, adding that their talks also touched on closer collaboration in the semiconductor field and waste-to-energy generation.

“We discussed Malaysia’s greater political stability and the confidence this brings to businesses and investors, alongside opportunities for closer collaboration in semiconductors and IC design.

“Our discussion also covered waste management, waste-to-energy (WTE) and power generation, as Malaysia actively explores alternative energy sources to meet its energy needs,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin also said Riecken-Daerr welcomed Lufthansa’s resumption of direct Kuala Lumpur-Frankfurt flights after nearly a decade, which she said opens further opportunities for business, tourism and trade.

During the visit, he highlighted Selangor’s network of ports, air cargo hubs and warehouses, with the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) set to strengthen connectivity and facilitate goods movement.

“I also conveyed my appreciation to (international trade fair) Hannover Messe for its continued collaboration in the Selangor Techsphere Summit, now in its second year.

“This partnership connects our industries and talent with international expertise and emerging technologies,” Amirudin said.

The envoy and menteri besar also discussed potential collaborations in the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) field.

Amirudin added that he is looking forward to the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s November 24 visit, which he said will offer a closer look at Selangor’s industrial strengths and investment and collaboration opportunities.
