SINGAPORE, June 9 — Selangor and Singapore are well-positioned to strengthen collaboration in addressing challenges arising from global uncertainties, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He believes that the two economies can work together to develop a trusted network of local companies across Southeast Asia.
"Selangor and Singapore have much in common, be it historically or in our present multicultural fabric, and we have even more room to collaborate to address the big challenges facing both our societies," he said in a Facebook post tonight.
Amirudin is currently on a three-day working visit to Singapore, which began yesterday, at the invitation of the Singapore government under the S R Nathan Fellowship programme.
During the visit, he called on Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Sri Temasek and met several ministers, including Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Education Minister Desmond Lee.
Amirudin and Lee also engaged in a conversation centred on stability as a prerequisite for continued economic growth and investor confidence in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
"Senior Minister Lee remains a keen observer of the region's developments, and I conveyed my assurance that clarity of governance is my priority in Selangor and extended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's regards on behalf of Malaysia to Singapore," he said.
Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar also met Singapore business leaders at an Investment Roundtable Meeting jointly hosted by OCBC Singapore and Invest Selangor Bhd, where participants exchanged views on the current economic challenges.
The session brought together Singapore-based corporations, multinational enterprises, potential investors, financial institutions and industry leaders to explore Selangor’s unique proposition as a preferred investment destination in ASEAN.
"The strong collaboration between the Selangor state government through Invest Selangor and OCBC reflects our shared commitment to strengthening economic linkages, facilitating investment flows, and creating new opportunities for businesses seeking to expand across ASEAN.
"This roundtable provided an important platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge exchange and business-to-government engagement, allowing us to better understand investor requirements, market trends, and industry expectations, while showcasing the vast opportunities available in Selangor," Amirudin added.
