KUALA LANGAT, Sept 8 — Selangor’s investment value could reach RM100 billion this year, surpassing its RM80 billion target, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the state’s investment performance is currently showing positive growth, with investments reaching about RM70 billion as of mid-year.
“We set a target of RM80 billion, in line with the achievement in 2025, but as of mid-2026, we have already reached RM70 billion. This is the highest in Malaysia.
“We strongly believe we will surpass the RM80 billion target. In fact, if the trend remains very positive, we are confident we can set a new record of more than RM100 billion, as we achieved in 2024,” he told a press conference today.
Earlier, he officiated the Phase 1 Vacant Possession handover ceremony and Phase 2 Launch of the NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP) in Tanjung Dua Belas here, which was also attended by state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state’s investment performance is also influenced by the current situation, including challenges related to supply chains, disaster risks and global geopolitical crises.
As such, he said the state government will intensify trade and investment missions overseas to attract more investments while opening up new markets for local companies.
“The world is changing very rapidly. Hopefully, the situation will improve and we can continue our overseas investment missions because a large portion of these investments does not only involve them coming here, but also us going there.”
Amirudin said he is confident that new developments such as the Third Port in Pulau Carey, and industrial areas in Bukit Raja, Klang, and several other areas would further stimulate economic activity in Selangor.
He said the expansion of the transport network, including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), is also expected to have a positive impact and serve as a catalyst for investment growth across all regions.
“If the ECRL operates as scheduled at the end of this year, it will spur development in the northern areas. Here, meanwhile, if all the roads are completed, we have about seven to eight kilometres that will be utilised,” he said.
In April, Invest Selangor Bhd announced an investment target of RM80 billion for this year, up from the RM65 billion target set for 2025.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris was reported as saying that Selangor is confident of achieving the target despite facing a budget review amid global uncertainty arising from the conflict in West Asia.
