SHAH ALAM, June 9 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has launched the Self-Audit Management System Petaling Jaya (SAMS PJ) to strengthen corporate governance and elevate its financial management standards.
The launch was officiated by MBPJ deputy secretary of management Mohd Fauzi Maarop and attended by MBPJ Internal Audit and Integrity Unit director Sharudin Ali.
MBPJ said SAMS PJ reflects the council’s commitment to a culture of proactive, systematic and continuous self-auditing.
“Through this system, every department and unit has the opportunity to conduct periodic self-audits to improve compliance with financial regulations, reinforce internal controls, and reduce the risks of non-compliance and leakages,” it said in a Facebook post yesterday.
The council emphasised that the initial phase of SAMS PJ focuses on expenditure management control through 50 self-auditing questions to ensure spending adheres to financial regulations, has adequate internal controls, and is properly recorded and monitored.
“In the future, this system will be expanded in stages to encompass various aspects of financial management including budget control, procurement, asset and store management, receipts, investments, and the preparation of financial statements,” it added.
MBPJ said SAMS PJ is expected to catalyse an improved culture of integrity, accountability, and governance.
