CYBERJAYA, June 8 — Smart Selangor Bus electric vehicle (EV) operations are running smoothly, with no disruptions caused by charging infrastructure issues, says state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.

He was responding to concerns over the availability of EV charging facilities across Selangor.

“Many are concerned about whether Selangor has sufficient EV charging facilities. However, so far, no Smart Selangor EV bus operations have been affected by charging issues,” he said in an exclusive interview with Media Selangor recently.

Ng said the state government is targeting at least 50 per cent EV bus usage by 2028 and a complete transition from diesel-powered buses to electric buses by 2030.

He said the move forms part of the state government’s goal of developing a future public transport system powered by green energy.

Ng added that areas such as Hulu Selangor are already prepared for the transition to electric buses, demonstrating that other urban areas can also undertake the same transformation.

If Hulu Selangor can transition to using EV buses, so can other areas in the state, says mobility exco Ng Sze Han.

At present, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) operates five EV buses across four routes.

The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) operates the largest fleet, with 15 EV buses serving five routes.

Other local authorities operating EV buses include the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), which has four buses on one route, as well as the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), each operating one bus on a single route.

Ng said the selection of EV bus models would also be tailored to geographical conditions and local requirements.

For example, routes in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya, are not suitable for smaller buses, while Subang Jaya’s wider route coverage allows for the use of mini electric buses, he said.
