KUALA SELANGOR, June 6 — The state government has approved a new developer to rescue the stalled Rumah Selangorku project in Morib, Kuala Langat, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.
He said the decision was made after the original developer declared insolvency, affecting the progress of the affordable housing project.
“Last month, we brought this matter to the State Executive Council and approved a rescue company. Now there is a developer willing to take over.
“The project consists of two phases and we are focusing on Phase 1 first, which involves single-storey terraced houses. Phase 1 is now nearly 85 per cent complete,” he said at a press conference after launching Desa Kerayong Indah here today.
The Rumah Selangorku Morib project is among a few affordable housing projects that have encountered difficulties.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is committed to finding a solution to the issue.
Meanwhile, Borhan said the takeover has brought relief to homebuyers, especially those of Phase 2 apartment units.
Affected Phase 2 purchasers have been offered single-storey terraced homes in Phase 1 at no additional cost, allowing them to finally secure a home after years of waiting.
“We are worried that if it takes any longer, there will be loss of items in the houses. Buyers are also willing not to claim LAD (liquidated ascertained damages). For now, we are trying to help,” Borhan added.
