SABAK BERNAM, Aug 9 — Every Rumah Selangorku Idaman and Rumah Selangorku Harapan project will be required to provide at least one bus stop to ensure residents have convenient access to public transport, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.
He added that this would be especially important for high-occupancy projects, and would encourage residents to use public transport.
He said comfortable and sheltered bus stops should be included in basic facilities for affordable housing developments.
“This is a good effort because when a Rumah Selangorku residential area in a neighbourhood has a very large number of houses, of course we encourage them to use public transport.
“If there are no facilities, if they do not provide something like a bus stop for them (at which to wait) without getting caught in the rain, maybe this will have an impact on making it easier for them to get to work or wherever they need to go,” he said after officiating the “Heritage in the Kitchen: Bringing Together the Flavours of Javanese, Banjar and Bugis Cuisines” at SK Seri Sekinchan here yesterday.
While tabling of the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on Friday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the state government would require at least one bus stop at every Rumah Selangorku Idaman and Rumah Selangorku Harapan location.
This is to ensure affordable housing projects have public transport access and support efforts to increase public transport use.
Borhan said the state government has identified several locations to increase the number of units for the Smart Sewa Scheme.
“We have already identified the locations and will (discuss which area to be prioritised),” he added.
