SHRDC: Selangor’s future growth hinges on youth participation in technology

SHAH ALAM, May 19 — Greater youth participation in technology, supported by stronger industry collaboration and talent development initiatives, is crucial to securing Selangor’s long-term development.

Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) chairman Mohamad Roslan Mohamad Nasir said nurturing interest and awareness in technology among young students remains a key focus of SHRDC.

“Students are the generation that will build Selangor’s future. That is why we are focusing on exposing them early to technology and innovation,” he told Media Selangor during the launch of the SINERGI powered by SHRDC event today.

SINERGI is a collaborative ecosystem initiative by the centre that brings together industry, academic and technology partners to strengthen Selangor’s transition toward a high-value, innovation-driven economy.

The initiative reflects SHRDC’s role as an integrated talent and industrial development hub that aligns skills training with industry needs while promoting collaboration to accelerate digital transformation, attract high-tech investment and build a future-ready workforce.

Roslan added that they have been actively collaborating with schools across the state by inviting students to participate in technology-related activities and hands-on projects, including practical exposure to real-world applications.

“These programmes allow students to understand how technology can be used and applied in real situations, and even encourage them to develop their own ideas and solutions,” he said.

SHRDC plays a key role in developing talent in Selangor, with these skilled individuals eventually contributing to industries and supporting the state’s economic growth.

Roslam also expressed hope that initiatives such as SINERGI would continue to receive strong government backing as they are designed to benefit Selangor’s economic and industrial future.

"One of the main challenges in implementing the initiative was securing collaboration and participation from technology partners, but SHRDC’s facilities and capabilities helped build confidence among industry players to come on board.

"Strengthening Selangor’s technology ecosystem over the long term would help attract more investments, particularly through the growth of high-technology industries in the state," he said.

Roslan also described SINERGI’s launch as highly successful, particularly with strong support from the state government and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
